Mass Evacuations and Preparedness Measures Underway - Odisha Braces for Cyclone Dana
As Cyclone Dana approaches the eastern coast of India, the Odisha state government has ramped up its efforts to safeguard its residents. With an expected landfall between Bhitarkanika and Dhamara late Thursday or early Friday, the severe cyclonic storm is predicted to bring winds of 100-110 mph, gusting up to 120 mph. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts, including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Cuttack, among others.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi held a high-level meeting with senior officers and district collectors of the 11 affected districts to review the state's preparedness. Measures include evacuating nearly 4 lakh people from low-lying and vulnerable areas and ensuring their safety in temporary shelters equipped with necessary supplies. Hospitals and medical teams are on standby, ready to address any emergencies that arise due to the cyclone's impact.
In addition to these measures, the state has suspended operations at major airports, and the Met Department forecasts heavy rainfall in the northern regions. The district administrations are working round the clock to monitor the situation and provide timely updates to the public.
Residents are urged to stay indoors, follow official advisories, and cooperate with the authorities during this critical period. As the storm approaches, the community's resilience and cooperation will be paramount in mitigating the potential damage and ensuring everyone's safety.
